Tartan Day, 2008

The celebration included our annual spring hike in the mountains -
this year on Baxter Mountain in Keene Valley, NY.

A “spirited” group of the St. Andrew’ Society of the Adirondacks hiked up Baxter Mt. in the town of Keene. A fixed rope was used on one steep section of ice and snow. All lived. Present were: Peter McAfee, Sarah Irving, Garda Babcock and Peter McP, Fish (SASA Directors). Also in the group were Janice Leslie (First president) and Heather Lindberg (First secretary). Thule, Heather’s Siberian husky was in MacPherson tartan and represented the canine world. The picture, taken atop Baxter with Giant Mt. in the background, is of (left to right) Janice, Peter Fish, Thule, Heather, and Garda. The “spirit” is Tobermory single malt. After the hike a few retired to the Fish residence for pizza and conversation.

Thank you to Paul Supley who donated commemorative pins which say “Tartan Day 2008” for the participants. Paul has given pins each Tartan Day, even when he could not make the hike.

Tartan Day is traditionally the first Saturday in April. Perhaps in 2009 more of our members will join the hike and stay for supper afterwards.
